I've been taking a painting class for the last few weeks and it's becoming a weekly highpoint. While I studied art in school, I haven't done much painting since I had children. For whatever reason (fatigue, procrastination?) the energy I expend on my family doesn't leave much left over for art. So, I'm trying, again, to return to something that has always been a source of great inspiration and happiness for me.
Shirl (my painting teacher) is a talented painter and specializes in plein air painting. Her husband John is a sculptor and together they make the most amazing light fixtures and chandeliers I think I have ever seen. To view their work, please visit their website www.elkriverart.com or, better yet, make visiting their gallery a "must see" while you are here. They are wonderfully warm people who love art and the natural world around them. This is evident in all their efforts. Their gallery is a beautiful project in its own right and we've all enjoyed seeing its progress over the last year.
You won't be seeing any of my recent painting attempts here - yet! But I'm happy to be painting again. It makes me much more aware of how beautiful the world we live in is and how lucky I am to be here.
The video below shows Shirl hard at work at her previous home in the Adirondacks.
