We woke up this morning, after days and days of heavy rains, to the Yellowstone River overflowing onto the edge of the lawn, obliterating the beach, lapping at the edge of the shed and moving HUGE lodgepole logs (some 50 feet plus) down the river at amazing speeds. Our friends at the Shooting Star Ranch up Cinnabar Creek lost the bridge between our house and their house. We have their daughter - so I'm sure they'll make it out eventually. (Secretly, we'd love to keep her!)
We know that the river will recede, depositing fresh clean sand on the beach, leaving us lots of lovely driftwood and cleaning out the dead willows from the flat bench that is visible in summer. But, the drama of today is worth watching!
