Anybody who's been around me for very long knows that while I don't want to LIVE in Bozeman (or, as we fondly call it at times, Bozangeles) it is our little hometown haven for all things cultural. Good food, art supplies, world class bookstores and great coffee shops. It really is a wonderful place.
I was heading there today (despite the hideous road conditions) and was turned back by the snow and by this HUGE gas explosion which occurred at 8:12am in downtown Bozeman. Gone is the historic Rockin R Bar, Boodles Cafe, Montana Trails Gallery and our local little upscale kid's boutique, Lily Lu's. (Where I will sincerely miss buying the occasional beautiful dress for my daughters.) The latest news is that the fire is still burning (in order to burn off the excess gas left in the main line) and that there is one person unaccounted for.
Reports are that the blast was so strong that it was felt as far away as the Bozeman hospital and that many windows in the two block radius around the blast were broken.
We will keep the people who have lost their businesses, jobs and homes in our thoughts and hope that there is no loss of life to report. Our little downtown just won't be the same.
